10mbps needs full translation.
People confuse bits and Bytes. File transfer speeds are in Bytes and network speeds are in bits per sec although activity monitor will show you Bytes not bits.
2.4ghz has limited connection speed on a Mac.. 150Mbps with latest newest stuff occasionally showing 217Mbps.
I connected my computer to my Time Capsule at 2.4ghz and you can see the result is link speed (Tx) of 145Mbps.
(Try and stick to standard.. b for bits .. B for Bytes) This is b so bits.
And therein lies your problem.. bits to Bytes.. divide by 8 although in real world wireless divide by 10 is more like reality. So absolute max speed for file transfer is 14MBytes/s
And even that is unlikely.. so I copied a file to show you.
Activity monitor gave me an average reading pretty much spot on.. !!
Macbook Pro late 2013, running Sierra, latest updates, fresh install, using wifi, no Ethernet possible.
Buy a thunderbolt to ethernet adapter.. they are not expensive cf everything else that has thunderbolt in the name. This is the best way to get your speeds up.
Or replace the router with AC wireless.
The much better link speeds at least from 2M away..
will give you dramatically improved file transfer speeds.. but don't expect ethernet.

Now if b=bits in your original post 10mbs is what you actually are getting.. which means a file transfer speed of 1MB/s then some setting is wrong.
Give us link speed to the wireless router.
And with Sierra there are multiple issues to do with Network drives.
You must turn off or better remove any anti virus software. Security software, firewall software.. or any sort of adware. speedup cleanup etc.
You might find forcing the mount to AFP is faster..
